The Okura Tokyo is a grand hotel in Toranomon, in Minato ward, descended from a house founded in 1962: two buildings, the 41-storey Prestige Tower and the garden-side Heritage Wing, an art museum next door and eight restaurants and bars. It suits travellers who want a classic Tokyo hotel, Western in style with Japanese touches, for three to five nights, and couples or families looking for the lowest entry price of the four hotels in our Tokyo selection.

## Two buildings, two ways to stay

The first choice is between the two wings.

**The Prestige Tower** is the 41-storey tower. Rooms are on floors 28 to 40, facing the city. The 48 m² Prestige Room is the most common category, with 234 rooms: a living area 6 m wide, a deep tub beside a picture window, a rain shower, and space for three. The 56 m² Prestige Corner has a corner view of the Imperial Palace and the three towers of Azabudai Hills. On floors 37 to 40, the Club Rooms add Club Lounge access, free entry to the Okura Museum of Art and 10% off at the spa; the Corner Suites, 97 to 106 m², have a teak-panelled living room.

**The Heritage Wing**, lower, looks over the gardens. Its Heritage Rooms, 60 to 63 m² on floors 6 to 17, have a private steam sauna, a jet bath, a deep tub and an engawa-style bench (the wooden veranda of Japanese houses) in front of a window more than 6 m wide. The 18 Heritage Rooms with Balcony, on floors 6 to 9, have a wide furnished balcony above the gardens. This is the wing to choose for quiet and Japanese style.

For a family of three, the Prestige Room and the Heritage Room both take three guests; Prestige Corner rooms can be booked as adjoining pairs.

## The art museum and the house's heritage

The Okura Museum of Art, next to the hotel, was founded in 1917 by the industrialist Okura Kihachiro; it describes itself as the oldest existing private art museum in Japan. Its pavilion in classical Chinese style, built in 1928 to a design by the architect Ito Chuta, shows paintings and works of art from Japan and Asia in changing exhibitions. It opens from 10 am to 5 pm, local time, last entry 4.30 pm, and closes on Mondays (open on a Monday public holiday, closed the following day); admission is 1,000 ¥ (about 6 €), 1,500 ¥ (about 9 €) during special exhibitions, and free for Club Room guests.

The hotel also runs tours of its historic lobby, a tea ceremony and introductions to calligraphy.

## Pool and spa

Okura Fitness & Spa combines a 25 m heated pool, a spa on the 26th floor with a dry sauna and steam room, and a gym on the 27th floor. The hotel has no hot spring. **The pool, baths, relaxation room and spa close from 12 to 15 January 2027** for maintenance: for a stay on those dates, we remind you when booking.

## Dining

Eight restaurants and bars, all under one roof:

- **Yamazato**: Japanese cooking, with a kappo counter (dishes prepared in front of the guest).
- **Sazanka**: teppanyaki (cooking on a hot iron plate) on the 41st floor, the top of the tower.
- **Nouvelle Epoque**: French cuisine.
- **Toh-Ka-Lin**: Chinese cuisine.
- **Orchid**: all-day dining, with the **Orchid Bar** and **Orchid Sweets & Deli**.
- **Starlight**: bar and lounge.

## How it compares in Tokyo

The Okura Tokyo is the oldest house among the four Tokyo hotels in our selection, the only one with an art museum and the only one in two buildings, one facing the city, the other the gardens. In our check for April 2027, it was also the least expensive, breakfast included. [Aman Tokyo](/en/hotels/aman-tokyo/) has only suites of at least 71 m²; [Park Hyatt Tokyo](/en/hotels/park-hyatt-tokyo/), in Shinjuku, has 55 m² entry rooms and views of Mount Fuji; [Hoshinoya Tokyo](/en/hotels/hoshinoya-tokyo/) is a ryokan (Japanese inn) with a true hot-spring bath.

It is the Tokyo hotel in our [Japanese Alps and Kanazawa in 10 days](/en/ideas/japanese-alps-kanazawa-10-days/) itinerary, before the journey on to [Kanazawa](/en/japan/kanazawa-and-kaga-onsen/).
