Patina Osaka is a 221-room hotel over 20 storeys, opened on 1 May 2025 in Chuo ward, a one-minute walk from Osaka Castle Park. It is aimed at families, with rooms that sleep up to five, and at travellers who want a stay built around wellbeing, with a 1,400 m² wellness area facing the castle keep. Patina is a brand of Capella Hotel Group, the group behind Capella Kyoto; the hotel received one Michelin Key in the 2026 guide.

A room for every family

Every room has floor-to-ceiling windows, a bathtub, a double basin and a rain shower, a Bang & Olufsen speaker and a complimentary non-alcoholic minibar. A tatami (rice-straw mat) daybed can be added on request, for a fee. Children under 12 get a child bed or cot. The main question is whether you want a view of the castle.

The Deluxe Room, Premier Room, Junior Suite and Urban Suite sleep up to five (three adults and two children), with a king bed or two doubles. The Deluxe Suite and the Patina Suite sleep four. The Patina Suite, on the 17th floor, has a living room, a study, a meditation room, a dining area, a kitchenette, a turntable, a stone bathtub and a private steam room. Check-in is at 3 pm and check-out at 12 noon (local time).

The wellness area

The hotel takes its cue from kisetsukan, the Japanese sense of the rhythm of the seasons, and its 1,400 m² wellness area looks out on the castle.

  • The heated indoor pool is open from 7 am to 10 pm (last entry 9 pm); children up to 12 can use it from 7 am to 6 pm.
  • The spa is open from 10 am to 9 pm (last treatment 8 pm), by reservation: Balinese massage, facials and body treatments.
  • HealthTech offers cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen, hydrogen therapy, full-body LED light rooms and assessments on Technogym Biostrength equipment.
  • The gym is open 24 hours.

All times are local. From 1 November to 31 December 2026, the "Winter Forest Serenity" package includes 35 minutes in an infrared sauna. Every morning from 6 to 10:30 am, the Listening Room hosts a listening session called "Morning Soundscape". The hotel lists no onsen (hot-spring bath) among its facilities; for a Japanese bath in Osaka, the 36th floor of Four Seasons Hotel Osaka has gender-separated and private baths.

Restaurants, bar and vinyl

  • P72 follows the 72 micro-seasons of the Japanese calendar, with seasonal produce.
  • Barin is a teppanyaki (cooking on a hot plate in front of you) that honours the samurai who once guarded the castle; the head chef is Toru Aso.
  • IÑAKI cooks its meat on a Basque grill and in a wood-fired oven.
  • NIJIRI is a tea salon, with sweets and savoury dishes.
  • Sonata Bar & Lounge serves cocktails and pintxo-style bites facing the castle; DJs play on Fridays from 8 to 11 pm (local time).
  • The Listening Room by OJAS, on the top floor, offers sessions of listening to limited-edition vinyl, by booking.

The hotel also works with the Japanese graphic artist VERDY.

The castle and the rest of Osaka

The hotel stands at 3-91 Banba-cho, a minute from the park. The castle keep museum, rebuilt in 1931 and renovated from 1995 to 1997, opens from 9 am to 6 pm (last entry 30 minutes before closing, local time) for 1,200 ¥ (about 7 €); the same ticket covers the underground museum of the Toyotomi stone wall, a rampart from the time of Toyotomi Hideyoshi found during excavations in 1984. Tanimachi 4-chome and Morinomiya metro stations are 8 and 9 minutes on foot; Dotonbori, Kuromon market and Umeda are covered on our Osaka page. The hotel arranges transfers on request from Itami airport, 20 to 25 minutes by car, and Kansai airport, 50 to 55 minutes.

Patina Osaka is the Osaka stop on our Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka in 12 days itinerary. For Kyoto, the JR Special Rapid links Osaka Station and Kyoto Station in about 30 minutes. Osaka's accommodation tax at this price level is 500 ¥ (about 3 €) per person per night (see our guide to money and taxes).

Compared with the other Osaka hotel in the selection

Patina Osaka and Four Seasons Hotel Osaka are the two Osaka hotels in our selection. Patina faces the castle park, with 221 rooms from 50 m², rooms for five, a heated pool and set hours for children: it is the family hotel. The Four Seasons is in the north, 10 minutes on foot from Osaka Station, with a ryokan-style tatami floor, Japanese baths and a Yannick Alléno restaurant on the 37th floor.
