Four Seasons Hotel Osaka occupies floors 28 to 37 of the One Dojima tower in Dojima, in the northern (Kita) district of Osaka, about 10 minutes on foot from Osaka (Umeda) Station. Opened on 1 August 2024, it has 175 rooms and suites, including a whole floor of 21 tatami rooms, the GENSUI floor, run like a ryokan (Japanese inn). It suits travellers who want a city base close to the trains, a chef's table and, for a night or two, ryokan life with the services of a large hotel. It received one Michelin Key in 2025 and again in 2026.
The tower and the water
One Dojima is a 49-storey tower designed by Nikken Sekkei, its outline inspired by a sail. The hotel occupies floors 1 and 2 and floors 28 to 37. The tower looks over the city's rivers and canals and, to the west, Osaka Bay. The interiors, by the Japanese studios Curiosity, Simplicity and Design Studio Spin, pick up this water theme: at the entrance, stone pillars wrapped in wooden louvres rise from shallow pools that recall the moat of Osaka Castle; on the ground floor, black timber is finished as yakisugi (surface-charred cedar).
The GENSUI floor
The 28th floor gathers 18 rooms and 3 suites with tatami (rush mats). You come in through a doma, a step-down entrance where shoes are left; you sleep on futons (Japanese mattresses), among sliding doors, walls lined with washi (Japanese paper) and sudare blinds. The bathroom has a full-depth tub and Japanese bath salts, and guests wear the yukata, the cotton robe of Japanese inns.
Since 1 June 2026, every stay on the floor includes:
- a welcome with Japanese tea and wagashi (Japanese sweets);
- access to the SABO Lounge, with a Japanese afternoon tea from 2:30 to 4:40 pm and an aperitif of sake and local spirits from 5:30 to 7:30 pm (local time);
- a bento (boxed selection of small dishes) breakfast, or the buffet at Jardin if you prefer;
- free daily activities: origami, calligraphy, matcha whisking.
The other 130 rooms and 24 suites are spread over floors 28 to 37. The table above shows these four groups as the hotel describes them.
The baths on the 36th floor
The wellness floor, on the 36th, brings together a 16 m indoor pool with glass walls over the city, Japanese baths separated by gender, two private baths to book and a sauna. The hotel links them to the culture of the sento, Osaka's neighbourhood public baths; it describes them as ofuro (Japanese baths) and makes no mention of hot-spring water. The Spa has five treatment rooms, one of them a couple's suite with a private bath, and the gym is open 24 hours. For the etiquette of shared baths, see our guide to onsen etiquette.
Dining
Three venues are on the 37th floor and two on the ground floor:
- Sushi L'Abysse Osaka, by chef Yannick Alléno, serves a menu that pairs modern French cooking with Edo-style sushi, with 18 seats and a private 6-seat counter room; the chef on site is Itaru Yasuda.
- Jiang Nan Chun serves Cantonese food around an open kitchen, with Peking duck carved at the table (56 seats).
- Bar Bota pours cocktails and Japanese whiskies and gins; behind it, a hidden room, the Laughing Buddha Room, is booked for private parties.
- Jardin, on the ground floor, is open all day: buffet breakfast, afternoon tea and French bistro dishes.
- Farine is the bakery and patisserie, with coffee and tea to take away.
In-room dining runs 24 hours a day. The hotel is next to Kitashinchi, a district packed with restaurants and bars.
Osaka and Kansai from Umeda
Osaka Station is 10 minutes on foot: the JR Special Rapid reaches Kyoto Station from there in about 30 minutes, which makes the hotel a base for days out in Kyoto or Nara. Also in the Kita district are the Kuchu Teien observatory of the Umeda Sky Building, open from 9:30 am to 10:30 pm (last entry 10 pm, local time), and the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, open from 10 am to 5 pm except Mondays (local time). The castle, Dotonbori and Kuromon market are covered on our Osaka page. Kansai airport is about 50 minutes away by taxi, Itami airport 25 minutes. Check-in is from 3 pm (local time).
Compared with the other Osaka hotel in the selection
Our selection has two hotels in Osaka. The Four Seasons is in the north, at Umeda, 10 minutes from the station where trains leave for Kyoto; its GENSUI floor offers a ryokan stay in the city, and its 37th-floor tables are shared between Yannick Alléno and a Cantonese restaurant. Patina Osaka, opened in 2025, faces the castle park, has rooms for up to five and a 1,400 m² wellness area. The Four Seasons suits a trip built around the train; Patina suits a family stay or one centred on wellbeing.
