Park Hyatt Tokyo is a 171-room hotel on floors 39 to 52 of Shinjuku Park Tower, in the Nishi-Shinjuku district on the west side of Tokyo, reopened on 9 December 2025 after a nineteen-month renovation. It suits couples who want a view of Tokyo or Mount Fuji from their room, a pool under a glass roof and restaurants at the top of a tower, for three or four nights.

A Kenzo Tange tower, redesigned in 2025

The hotel opened in July 1994 in Shinjuku Park Tower, designed by the architect Kenzo Tange. The interior designer John Morford had conceived it as a private residence at the top of the tower. The 2024-2025 renovation went to the Paris studio Jouin Manku, run by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, who redesigned all 171 rooms while keeping Isamu Noguchi's washi paper lamps, a house signature.

Art plays a large part: paintings by Yoshitaka Echizenya in the suites, lithographs commissioned for the rooms, Valerio Adami's murals and Minoru Nomata's Metropolis series at New York Grill & Bar, and a 144-image collage by Vera Mercer at Girandole.

Choosing a room

The room table sets out six categories, from 55 to 290 m².

  • The Deluxe Room, 55 m², is on floors 42 to 51. It faces either the city or Mount Fuji, with a seamless wet-room bathroom and a deep soaking tub. For a couple, this is the room to book; we ask for the Fuji side, visible on clear days.
  • The Park Suite, 85 m², new with the renovation, looks towards Harajuku, Shibuya, Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park, with living and dining areas: for a longer stay.
  • The Governor's Suite, 140 m², on the 44th floor, has a bathroom in hinoki (Japanese cypress), cedar and marble, with a hinoki tub: the most Japanese of the suites.
  • The large suites: the 160 m² Diplomat Suite on the 48th and 49th floors, facing south and east; the 220 m² Tokyo Suite on the 50th, with a kitchen and a table for eight, restored to its original design; and the 290 m² Presidential Suite on the 51st, the largest.

Club On The Park

The wellness floors, the 45th and 47th, cover about 2,100 m². The 20 by 8 m pool lies under a glass atrium 14 m high, facing the city. The spa has seven treatment rooms, including one for couples, marble whirlpools, saunas and cold plunges. The hotel has no hot spring: for a Japanese bath in Tokyo, Hoshinoya Tokyo has its own, and our guide to onsen etiquette explains the customs.

Dining

  • New York Grill & Bar, on the 52nd floor, the top of the hotel, with its Valerio Adami murals.
  • Kozue: modern Japanese cooking inspired by kaiseki (a seasonal Japanese meal of many small courses), by chef Nobuhiro Yoshida, facing Mount Fuji.
  • Girandole by Alain Ducasse: a French-style brasserie by chef Kojiro Tsutsumi, with a semi-private room lined with bookplates.
  • The Peak Lounge & Bar: under a glass roof and a grove of bamboo, at the top of the first of Tange's three towers.
  • Delicatessen, on the ground floor, and Pastry Boutique, at the main entrance on the second floor.

Location and what to do nearby

The hotel stands in Shinjuku Park Tower, in Nishi-Shinjuku, the district of towers west of Shinjuku Station. That station serves the west of the city and the Romancecar, the Odakyu company's limited express, which reaches Hakone-Yumoto in about 80 minutes: the most direct way to Hakone. Meiji Jingu Shrine, in its 70-hectare forest, and the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, 20 minutes by train from Shinjuku on the JR Chuo Line (JR: Japan Railways), lie on the same west side of the city; the Ghibli Museum admits visitors on dated tickets only. Our Tokyo page covers these sights.

For shinkansen (bullet trains) to Kyoto or Kanazawa, you first head to Tokyo or Shinagawa Station.

How it compares in Tokyo

Of the four hotels in our Tokyo selection, Park Hyatt Tokyo is the only one in Shinjuku, to the west, and the most recently renovated. Its entry rooms, at 55 m², are larger than those at The Okura Tokyo and Hoshinoya Tokyo. Aman Tokyo, in Otemachi, has only suites and a larger spa, at a higher price; The Okura Tokyo has an art museum and the lowest entry price.

It is the Tokyo hotel in our Japan honeymoon in 11 days itinerary.
